A Word from the Director

Pioneering a Sustainable Future Through Maritime Innovation

Dear Visitors,

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I welcome you to the Centre of Excellence in Maritime Robotics and Technologies for Sustainable Blue Economy (CoE MARBLE). As we embark on this transformative journey, our mission is clear: to position Croatia as a beacon of innovation in maritime robotics and technologies while driving equitable, sustainable growth for the blue economy.

The ocean is not just a resource—it is a lifeline for ecosystems, industries, and communities. At CoE MARBLE, we recognize the urgency of advancing technologies that protect and sustainably harness this vital frontier. Through strategic partnerships with world-class institutions like NTNU Norway and CNR Italy, we are bridging cutting-edge research with real-world applications, ensuring Croatia becomes a European lighthouse in this critical field.

Our Vision in Action

Our four research pillars—Maritime Robotics & Autonomous Systems, Maritime Green Endurance, Maritime IoT, and Maritime Digital Twins—are designed to tackle the most pressing challenges facing our oceans. From AI-driven autonomous vessels to eco-friendly energy solutions and smart maritime infrastructure, we are pioneering technologies that reduce carbon footprints, enhance safety, and optimize resource efficiency.

What excites me most is our commitment to regional balance. By establishing pilot sites in Šibenik and Rijeka—from smart mussel farms to autonomous marine vehicle hubs—we are catalyzing industrial transformation across Croatia’s Adriatic coast. This decentralized approach ensures that innovation benefits all communities, fostering economic resilience and reducing developmental disparities.

Collaboration at Our Core

CoE MARBLE thrives on the synergy of our quadruple-helix consortium: academia, industry, policymakers, and civil society. Together with partners like the Maritime Innovation Cluster (MARINN), DIH AgriFood Croatia, and the Croatian Ministry of Science and Education, we are building an ecosystem where ideas flourish, startups thrive, and policies align with technological progress.

As Director, I am deeply inspired by the talent and dedication of our team. From engineers to oceanographers, every member shares a common goal: to deliver solutions that harmonize human activity with marine preservation.

Join Us

The Horizon Europe “Teaming for Excellence” grant is just the beginning. Whether you are a researcher, industry leader, policymaker, or citizen passionate about our oceans, I invite you to collaborate with us. Explore our pilot sites, engage with our research, or reach out to discuss how we can shape a sustainable blue economy together.

Together, we are not just navigating the future—we are creating it.

Warm regards,
