Fausto Ferreira Presents MARBLE at the EU Forum in Opatija

The prestigious EU Forum, held at the Hotel Ambasador on April 21, 2026, gathered a powerful assembly of European diplomats, industry titans, and academic leaders to define the future of the maritime sector. Our Fausto Ferreira was part of the keynote session on maritime security.

Ferreira took the stage alongside Professor Basil Germond (Lancaster University) for a keynote lecture titled “Understanding Maritime Security.” The session addressed the critical need for advanced technological solutions in an era of rapid geopolitical and environmental change.

As the Head of the Research Support Office at MARBLE and an Assistant Professor at the University of Zagreb (FER), Ferreira brought a wealth of experience from the Laboratory for Underwater Systems and Technologies (LABUST). He discussed how maritime robotics and AI are transitioning from experimental tools to essential components of national and international security frameworks.

The event was opened by prominent figures including Justus Reinke (Managing Director of Lürssen) and Teuta Duletić (Managing Director of the Maritime Center of Excellence), and featured panels with ambassadors from Germany, Norway, and Sweden. The presence of such a diverse group of stakeholders reinforced the message that Ferreira and MARBLE are central players in shaping “resilient and secure maritime pathways for Europe.
