MARBLE is proud to announce that on 2nd September, during the IEEE OES Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) Symposium, Assistant Professor Fausto Ferreira, our Acting Head of Research Support Office , was given the 2026 Mid-Career Rising Star Award for outstanding contributions to marine robotics research and innovation, and for strengthening the international marine robotics community through initiatives that foster knowledge exchange, hands-on training, mentoring, student competitions, and international collaboration.
This award was decided by the IEEE OES Autonomous Maritime Systems Technology Committee and is given to honour mid-career researchers and faculty that have made a demonstrable difference to our field and have the potential of continuing on the stellar track that they are following. The award ceremony took place during the AUV 2026 Gala Dinner, on-board the HMS Warrior, the first iron-hulled ship of the Royal Navy and honoured as well Katherina Skinner (Mid-Career Rising Star) and Prof. James Bellingham with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
We would like to congratulate Fausto Ferreira (and all awardees) in this achievement which recognizes his contribution to the profession and technical leadership. We are incredibly proud of his accomplishments and look forward to the continued impact in maritime robotics!
